Graduation!!

Last Friday we celebrated the completion of our 10 week Latvian Language course. Here Katie Roth and Liga Avotina (our teachers) are giving me my diploma.

I may not have been the quickest and brightest student but "I was faithful!" -- didn't miss any classes. :)

It was fun to give special thanks to those who made the classes possible - so we gave flowers to our teachers and those who did a lot of other work - fixing lunch every day, taking care of Katie's kids (little Esther is pictured here), cleaning rooms, etc.

An Evening of Bowling

Katie, Liene, and Me!

Ministry comes in many shapes and sizes -- including an opportunity to go bowling!! One evening the ladies Bible Study group from a church in our area invited us to go bowling.
It was a dark, cold, snowy evening and the alley was more than an hour away but what fun we had. We were a group of over 20 women, most of whom had little experience with the sport! All the ladies seemed to have a great time. I haven't been bowling for more than a year so was quite tired and sore by the end of the evening.
As you can see from the picture below, the place was quite new and with all the modern "trappings" - colored lights on the pins, the whole room was blue and the machines keeping score were quite fun - with all the caricatures - people cheering when there was a strike or spare, etc.
It is still one of my dreams (and I mean a crazy dream) that we could have a bowling alley in Tilza!!
