Painting the Yellow House

The Yellow House is a large, three storey building on the
Tilža Baptist church property that originaly was a hospital. When I first came to Tilža in 1999 it had not been used in years and needed lots of work to make it a place for ministry activities. Since then it has been remodeled, repainted and made quite comfortable for group activities, retreats, weekend guests, and even worship services.

The first time it was painted yellow and it looked
nice but in recent years the paint had worn off and
it needed to be done again. About six weeks ago the
project got started. Paint and other supplies were
purchased in Riga, Balvi and Tilža, scaffolding was
rented in Balvi and we were ready to go.

All the old paint was sanded off. The first "coat" was an anticeptic, then a white primer was put on and all the cracks filled in with an acrylic that could be painted over. Next came two coats of
beautiful yellow paint. All the window frames
were also repainted white.

The process took the full-time work of 5 people (Dan, Kaspars, Gintis, Aija, and Līga) for about 10 days. Others helped as they could. We had only one slight mishap. While Katie was holding the ladder for Dan, his can of paint fell and hit her. The bump wasn't so bad but she had paint all over!!

I wasn't part of the work crew but did spend a good deal of time
watching the children while their parents were working.

Creativity!!

Each week in Sunday School we have one or two activities to help the kids get involved with the story so they can remember what they learned -- and something about the application of the Word of God to their lives.

Here you see what some of the kids made from "Plasticine" when we asked them to make something that they might find in heaven.

The next week we asked them to draw or make something that showed what God wants them to do.

This picture is a re-enactment of the Prodigal Son story, which we told to describe how much God, the Father, loves each of us.

These kids are wonderful.
